Air Compressor Frequently Asked Questions
How often should compressor pressure testing be performed?
For normal use air compressors, with pressure vessels with CAT 1 and higher, every 3 years and if you fall under the mining law, every year. Vessels with a SEP category, never needs any in service pressure testing.
How can I extend the lifespan of my compressor parts?
A clean environment reduces the maintenance on any air compressor. The correct oil is very important. Regular servicing with the correct parts will prevent premature failures.
What are the key maintenance steps for air compressors?
Reciprocating (piston) air compressors, running on mineral oil, are serviced every 500 hours. It is mainly an air filter and oil change. If it runs on a synthetic oil, the oil change intervals may be longer. Screw compressors will need a minor service every 2000 hours. This is an air filter, oil filter change and top up of the oil, if it runs on synthetic oil. A major service every 6000 hours. This is an air filter, oil filter, separator filter and a complete synthetic oil change. If the machine is running on mineral oil, a major service every 2000 hours is necessary.
What are the warranty options available for your compressor products?
The warranty varies from compressor to compressor. The DIY machines do not carry the same warranty as the medium duty or heavy-duty industrial machines. Most air compressors have a warranty of 12 months. Some have a warranty against faulty materials and workmanship only. Some have a warranty for 12 months against normal wear and tear and unlimited against bad workmanship or faulty materials. Some machines are even electrically guaranteed.
Do you provide after-sales support and service for air compressors?
Airpower carries spare parts for every machine we sell. Airpower have very knowledgeable staff doing services on our as well as other air compressors and pneumatic systems.
What is the difference between a petrol and diesel air compressor? Which one should I choose?
It depends on the application. On our small compressors, Airpower will always recommend the petrol units. The petrol unit starts easier with a recoil starter and it has less vibrations than the diesel unit. Airpower always recommend an electric starter on the diesel units. Diesel units are only for mines and areas where petrol units are not allowed.
Do you build custom compressors for large-scale projects and installations such as hospitals or other big infrastructure?
Yes, Airpower design air compressors, vacuum pumps, pneumatic production machines, control systems for these machines and air / vacuum pipe lines.
