ISO 8573-1 is the international standard that classifies air purity by particles, water, and oil. Complying with this standard ensures your air quality meets the specific needs of your industry, preventing product spoilage and extending the life of your pneumatic machinery.
Refrigerated dryers require maintenance of the cooling circuit and heat exchangers (similar to an AC unit). Desiccant dryers, however, involve checking the switching valves and periodically replacing the desiccant beads (silica gel or activated alumina) that “soak up” moisture.
Moisture leads to corrosion in pipes, frozen air lines in winter, and damaged solenoid valves. In spray painting, it causes “fish eyes” or bubbles in the finish, while in food production, it can lead to bacterial growth.
Generally, desiccant should be replaced every 2 to 3 years, depending on the air quality and usage. However, if you notice an increase in the pressure dew point (moisture appearing downstream), the desiccant may be saturated or contaminated by oil and need immediate replacement.
